China is using anti-satellite weaponry as a “Trump Card” against a vulnerable and satellite dependent United States.

Amid reports on January 7 that Beijing is preparing to carry out another anti-satellite weapons test, China’s state media said Beijing has the right to conduct the test because the technology represents a “trump card” against American power.

In both 2007 and 2010, Beijing carried out anti-satellite weapons tests, and some U.S. analysts suspect that the next test will see China aiming for higher altitudes than in the previous ones—targeting an object around 12,000 miles above Earth’s surface. A report on said a test at such a level would place the constellation of America’s Global Positioning System (gps) at risk.

China’s state-run Global Times said Washington’s worries that the test could damage the U.S.’s gps are “over blown,” but fell short of any real reassurances, saying only that the test would “not strike down satellites, but invalidate them.”

Why does China need to develop the anti-satellite weaponry that it is testing? The state-run Times explained:

The U.S. advantage is overwhelming. Before strategic uncertainties between China and the U.S. can disappear, China urgently needs to have an outer space trump card … China and Russia jointly initiated a program to avoid an arms race in outer space in 2008, but this proposal was refused by the U.S. Against this background, it is necessary for China to have the ability to strike U.S. satellites. This deterrent can provide strategic protection to Chinese satellites and the whole country’s national security.

China’s planned test comes as Beijing is rapidly assembling its own “gps,” called the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System. China’s military and many official bodies are already using this system. In the years ahead, Beijing plans to launch 20 more satellites to improve its functionality.

America’s space power gives it great advantages, but also creates dependence. Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has pointed to America’s reliance on technology as the country’s Achilles’ heel. The U.S. is vulnerable not only to cyberattacks, but also to electronic attacks on its satellite or related systems. A successful attack on these systems could take out Washington’s smart bombs, guided missiles, satellite maps and photos or navigation.

For half a century, America reigned as the world’s dominant superpower. But evidence abounds in the U.S.’s foreign policy, economy, military and elsewhere that this era of supremacy is rapidly coming to a close. Space technology is another arena where America’s decline has set in as nations such as China speedily close the gap.

This shift brings the world into a perilous new age—but it is all in perfect alignment with trends the Trumpet has forecast for decades. For more information on the source of our forecasting, request our free book The United States and Britain in Prophecy.

Report: UK Military Could Be ‘Fatally Compromised’ by Cyberattack

Report: UK Military Could Be ‘Fatally Compromised’ by Cyberattack

The UK is ‘extremely vulnerable,’ says House of Commons Defense Committee.

The British military is heavily dependent upon technology and could be brought to a halt by a cyberattack, according to a report by the House of Commons Defense Committee, published January 9. The committee warned that cyberthreats can evolve “with almost unimaginable speed and with serious consequences for the nation’s security.”

It said it was “concerned that with the armed forces now so dependent on information and communications technology, should such systems suffer a sustained cyberattack, their ability to operate could be fatally compromised.”

The committee fears that the government is not preparing properly for such an attack.

Maj. Gen. Jonathan Shaw, former head of cyber security at the Ministry of Defense, wasn’t very comforting as he defended the government on bbc Radio 4’s Today program. Britain is “extremely vulnerable” to cyberattacks, he said—adding that the government was working hard to counter them.

He warned that the threat changes so quickly that it’s hard for the government to develop contingency plans.

He also said that ultimately, the government alone cannot ensure Britain is secure from this type of threat. Attacks on civilian infrastructure can hamper or halt the military, but in a free society it is hard for the government to defend this infrastructure.

General Shaw called for a “cyber hygiene campaign” to get companies and individuals to do their part in defending the nation from cyberattacks.

“There is no such thing as absolute security in cyberspace,” he warned. “What we need to do is make ourselves as safe as we possibly can be.”

This is the problem with cyberwar. It is much harder to defend against a cyberattack than it is to carry out one. An attacker just needs to find one weakness. A defender needs to eliminate them all.

The select committee’s report highlights the problem any hi-tech nation has defending against these threats. Even if the army does its part perfectly, the company that manufactures its electronic equipment could make a mistake. The national grid or water system could be hit.

No nation has experienced a crippling cyberattack yet. This makes such an attack very hard to prepare for. Throwing a lot of money at the problem won’t fix it. A cyberattack is one of Britain’s and America’s biggest weaknesses.

Croatia to Join EU Though Flouting Rules

Croatia to Join EU Though Flouting Rules

Croatia’s long-awaited acceptance into EU membership is about to happen.

Despite its failure to address charges of deep-seated internal corruption, failure to comply with EU rules on its economy, and with a credit rating at junk status, Croatia is slated to become the 28th member of the European Union in July.

It was inevitable—it’s just that it’s taken so long.

From the time Germany and the Vatican endorsed the recognition of Croatia along with Slovenia as being sovereign states separate from greater Yugoslavia, it was just a matter of time before Catholic Croatia, akin to Slovenia, would become a member nation of the EU club, now overseen by the Rome/Berlin axis, despite its endemic corruption.

In fact, we can take from this move by EU elites, their project of empire building in Europe is about to consummate. There’s very little territory remaining on the Continent to draw into the EU maw. What remains now is the reorganization of the EU into its prophesied 10 constituent parts as prophesied in Revelation 13 and 17.

As we have pointed out since Germany and the Vatican combined to stimulate the Balkan wars of the 1990s, access to a warm-water seaway, its ports and strategic inland waterways, was crucial to the Holy Roman imperialists’ vision of seeking to extend hegemony south and east in pursuit of imperial territorial gain.

Croatia is the seaway hinge on which the German merchant marine and navy increasingly depend for access to the Mediterranean and beyond. Croatia’s direct link to Germany via the Danube River system is vital to this strategic connection. It eases access to ship maintenance facilities available in Malta, to the ship-building and sea-port infrastructure it is increasingly securing in Greece, to the vital ports and listening posts of Cyprus now in its grasp, and especially to the toehold in Turkey via Germany’s new missile base in that nation. This also begs the question, will Bundesmarine access east via the Dardanelles be the next goal of EU imperialist elites, taking them right up to Russia’s doorstep?

Put all this together with the growing influence of the Bundesmarine’s deployment in the Mediterranean and off the Horn of Africa and we see that Germany suddenly has open to it a vital chain of marine access in the imperialist elites’ march south and east in their quest for empire—a Holy Roman Empire! And it all started with bilateral recognition by Germany and Rome of the state of Croatia as a sovereign nation in its own right.

The great paradox is that, come July, Croatia sacrifices that sovereignty for recognition as just another state within the imperialist European empire. Berlin and Rome will then have won the prize they set out to seize back in 1991—and an empire will have been won in the process.

Islamophobia Rising in Germany

Islamophobia Rising in Germany

Anti-Islamic sentiments grow in Germany as Europe continues to detest Muslims.

Anti-Islamic sentiment in Germany is continuing to rise, as negative attitudes toward Muslims and Islam are becoming culturally acceptable.

In an article titled “German Bigotry Shifting From Race to Religion,” Germany’s Local reported that outright racism and xenophobia—which have been taboo in Germany—are giving way to Islamophobia. Alexander Häusler, a neo-Nazi expert from Düsseldorf’s technical university, explained that religious-based racism is more culturally acceptable in Germany, being seen as exercising freedom of opinion. “Criticism of Islam or Muslims appear acceptable, because it is not seen as classically racist,” he told German newspaper Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung on January 7.

Wilhelm Heitmeyer, head of research at Bielefeld University, showing how culturally acceptable Islamophobia was becoming, told the same paper how widespread these sentiments are. According to the Local,

Heitmeyer … found that Islamophobia seemed to exist not only in the far right, but was also present in more left-leaning and centrist circles. The sentiment was identifiable throughout the country, from the highest echelons of society to the lowest.

German police and intelligence officials categorize anti-Muslim/Islam sentiment generally as xenophobia. Muslim authorities in Germany are demanding that this hatred be categorized independently, because, as the head of the Central Council for Muslims in Germany, Aiman Mazyek, told Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, hostility against Islam is being blurred out.”

These trends in Germany line up with the Bible’s prophecies of a coming clash between a German-led revival of the “Holy Roman Empire” and Islam. In the article “Why Do 10 Percent of Germans Want Another Führer?” we wrote,

Stay tuned to the ongoing debate in Germany about immigration and Islam. As anti-Muslim sentiment grows, tensions will intensify. … Soon, very soon, Germany will get its biblically prophesied führer! When he arrives, both history and prophecy reveal that he, like Hitler, will quickly set about confronting Islam!

Rebels Capture Key Syrian Airbase

The Syrian rebels have captured a key Syrian airbase in Taftanaz which is massive blow to Assad regime.

Syrian rebels have overrun the largest airbase in northern Syria. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the fighting around the Taftanaz airbase ceased Friday morning when the rebels ousted the last remnants of government forces.

The airbase housed two squadrons of Mil-8/17 Hip transport helicopters, and was previously used by the government to conduct air raids, and transport troops and supplies in Syria’s northern sector. Government forces withdrew all working helicopters from the site before it was overrun. The rebels allegedly seized a number of armored vehicles, 20 choppers that were not in working order, and a large stockpile of weapons.

The greatest loss to the Assad regime is not the military hardware, but the loss of its largest logistical supply center. With the rebels cutting off many roads throughout the country, resupply must be done through the air. By taking the airbase, the rebels have dealt a heavy blow to the government forces. Before the attack, President Bashar Assad’s forces were already struggling on multiple fronts in the region. The loss of the airbase marks a tough winter ahead for the government forces.

Rebels in the north and around Damascus have been systematically taking over airbases and making off with weapons caches. This latest attack will further strengthen the military power and resolve of the rebels.

The attack on Taftanaz may be just one incident, but it is one of hundreds that are slowly weakening the Syrian government. Such attacks fit in to what Bible prophecy foretells for the region. The Trumpet has explained that prophecy indicates Syria will not be aligned with Iran for much longer. For that split to occur, the current administration must either be removed from office or make a sudden U-turn. Czechoslovakia Respected Herbert W. Armstrong

Czechoslovakia Respected Herbert W. Armstrong

CEDOK’s Vaclav Pleskot and Jaroslav Gebert wanted the Feast of Tabernacles in Brno.

Herbert W. Armstrong’s first visit to Czechoslovakia occurred midway through 1985, about six months before his death. Located in Central Europe, the country has its modern origins dating back to late 1918 after its declaration of independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. During World War ii, Adolf Hitler, eager for lebensraum, split the country and ordered its inclusion as part of Nazi Germany. Then, during the mid-1940s, its land was seized by the Soviets. It remained a Communist state through the late 1980s.

The unofficial ambassador for world peace took a short flight from Paris to Prague, initiated at the request of Jaroslav Gebert, a representative of the Czech government adjunct responsible for travel of foreigners, events and conventions.

Mr. Gebert was manager of the state tourist agencycedok, which was founded in 1920, and later expanded throughout Europe. After World War ii and subsequent Soviet occupation, Czechoslovakia, as a red state satellite, directed the adjunct to be managed by various government departments. The 1980s saw the era of the agency’s rapid modernization, constructing new hotel properties tallying over 200, with more than 20,000 employees spanning across its assets of restaurants, ski resort services, railways, entertainment venues, more than 150 travel agencies and almost two dozen international offices.

“In Prague Mr . Armstrong was given a private boat trip on the Vltava River (Moldau) and an extensive sightseeing tour of the city. Mr. Armstrong also visited Konopiste Castle, about 40 kilometers outside of Prague. The last residents of Konopiste were Francis Ferdinand and his wife Sophia of the Habsburg line. It was Francis Ferdinand and his wife who were assassinated at Sarajevo in 1914, triggering World War i.

“During his stay, Mr. Armstrong met with Vaclav Pleskot, president of cedok, who gave a dinner for Mr. Armstrong and his party. Mr. Pleskot was formerly ambassador to France and Algeria, and is active in sports and environmental affairs. He was mainly responsible for making volleyball an official Olympic sport. Mr. Pleskot thoroughly enjoyed looking through the Envoy and asked for permission to visit our festival in Brno this autumn. Mr. Gebert remarked that he felt this was only the beginning of many such visits by Mr. Armstrong to Czechoslovakia” (Pastor General’s Report, June 7, 1985).

The Feast of Tabernacles, which was the largest convention on Earth at the time, had enjoyed four of its festivals in Brno. Within a few months of Mr. Armstrong’s visit, 290 people, traveling from nine nations and speaking five languages, would gather at the Hotel Voronez to attend the festival in Czechoslovakia. As a special honor to their foreign guests, an imperial dinner was hosted at the famed Zidlochovice hunting lodge (Worldwide News, Nov. 4 1985).

It came as no surprise that upon Mr. Armstrong’s death, Vaclav Pleskot, as president of cedok, on behalf of the Czech government, wrote, “We were very much grieved to hear of the death of Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong, president of the Ambassador Foundation and chancellor of Ambassador College. We shall always remember the last visit of Mr. Armstrong in Prague. Please accept our sincerest sympathy in your sad bereavement” (ibid, Feb. 10, 1986).

Mr. Armstrong didn’t live to see the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall heralding the end of the Cold War, and ensuring the collapse of the Soviet Union and the 1993 dissolution of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Mr. Pleskot did live to see the fulfillment of these climactic biblically prophesied events, and died in September 2012. He served his country as a national sports official, foreign ambassador, secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, latterly, managing director of cedok.

Citizens of Czechoslovakia were privileged to hear a voice crying out over the airwaves of Europe via the World Tomorrow broadcast and in the Plain Truth magazine the gospel of the coming Kingdom of God (Matthew 24:14).

Just as the Czechs savored the memory of the visit from the internationally recognized ambassador for world peace to help finalize preparations for the Feast of Tabernacles, viewers of the Key of David program and readers of the Trumpet magazine recognize that same gospel message, going out with intensified urgency through the voice and pen of editor in chief Gerald Flurry as he prophesies again to “many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings” (Revelation 10:11).

Each year, members of the Philadelphia Church of God gather around the world in perpetuation of God’s scriptural command to continue the world’s longest-running conference on world peace (Leviticus 23:33-36; Deuteronomy 14:22-27). As with Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Flurry speaks in person and via satellite to attendees in all corners of the globe declaring the way of peace and the message of the soon-coming return of Christ and establishment of God’s family government—peace enforcement for all mankind. Together we memorialize a prophesied soon-coming time of peace and prosperity ushered in by God Himself, where Czechs and all human beings (Zechariah 14:16) will be attending a conference discussing the proliferation of plowshares and pruning hooks (Micah 4:2-3).
