Barak: Hezbollah Establishing Fortifications in Southern Lebanon
June 4, 2008 | From theTrumpet.com
The small democratic outpost in the Middle East is becoming surrounded by enemies it failed to defeat.

Hezbollah is growing stronger, collecting more weapons and fortifying itself along the Israeli-Lebanon border, according to Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

Barak says that Hezbollah is also setting up positions in 150 villages deep inside southern Lebanon.

The terrorist organization is not acting alone. Even as Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert works toward giving Syria the Golan Heights, Syria is supplying Hezbollah with arms. “The Syrians are working in intimate cooperation with Hezbollah, and they are in large part responsible for the transfer of weapons and supplies to Hezbollah,” said Barak. “The ultimate responsibility, as far as we’re concerned, lies with Hezbollah on the one hand, and with the Iranians and the Syrians on the other.”

Under United Nations Resolution 1701, the 9,500-strong United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (unifil) is supposedly to prevent this from happening. That mission has been a failure right from the start.

In the summer of 2006, Israel lost its war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Trumpet wrote at the time, “The gravity of this historic moment can hardly be overstated,” going on to say that this war was about “laying the groundwork for future, deadlier operations.”

Israel’s defeat that summer was a turning point. The Israel of wars past—winning decisive, lightning-fast, long-odds victories over multiple Arab states—was visibly replaced by an Israel that could not eradicate just a few thousand terrorists.

Israel lacked the will to finish the fight. Instead, it chose to put its trust in the United Nations to secure Lebanon for it, in effect, letting Hezbollah win. Now the terrorists are preparing to attack Israel again.

Meanwhile, the Israeli administration is negotiating with Syria, and looks like it is willing to give up the Golan Heights for peace promises. Syria doesn’t want peace. Even as it negotiates, it is preparing for war.

Israel has won its last victory. For more information, read “Israel: When the Miracle Victories Ended.”
