Trump’s Classified Documents Case Postponed Indefinitely

The court case charging Donald Trump with willfully retained classified documents after leaving the White House was postponed indefinitely on Tuesday by United States District Judge Aileen Cannon, who noted the need for “adequate preparation.”

The trial, which had been scheduled for May 20, won’t be held until sometime after July 22, when the pretrial hearings will finish.

Delays: On Monday night, Cannon issued a brief order pausing the deadline for Mr. Trump to disclose classified documents he plans to present at the trial.

Earlier that day, Trump’s lawyers had pushed for a delay after finding the documents gathered from Mar-a-Lago had been rearranged from their original order. The order of the documents is a key part of the case.

Cannon also pushed back a series of other deadlines, culminating in a delayed trial.

The court also determines that finalization of a trial date at this juncture … would be imprudent and inconsistent with the court’s duty to fully and fairly consider the various pending pretrial motions ….
—Aileen Cannon

Next move: Along with their request to delay the trial, Trump’s lawyers said they plan to file additional motions, asking charges against Trump to be dropped if the Department of Justice “cannot prove in a reliable way how it seized and handled the key evidence in the case.”

With the indefinite delay, it’s unlikely the trial will commence until after the presidential election in November. The doj is concerned that if the trial date is not scheduled before the election, it may never come to fruition.

Failing strategy: Prior to the 2020 elections, the Democrats rigged the election to get Trump out of office. This time, they are using the court to try to keep him out.

But no matter how hard they try, they can’t kick Trump out of the race.
